Common use
Grifulvin V is an antifungal medication which used to treat fungal infections of the skin, scalp, and nails such as jock itch, athlete's foot, and barber's itch. The infections maybe caused by various types of dermatomycetes (Trichophytons, Microsporums, and Epidermophytons). This drug does not treat infections due to bacteria or yeast. Grifulvin just stopping the growth of fungi.
Dosage and direction
Grifulvin V is taken orally and can be applied locally on the skin. Take tablets with a meal and a teaspoon of vegetable oil. Treatment may continue from several days to several months. Follow all recommendations of your doctor. The medication is taken daily till the first negative result of fungi analysis and then continue taking the same dose during two weeks each other day and two times a week during two weeks.
Precautions
Before to start treatment with Grifulvin V consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: a certain blood disorder (porphyria), severe liver disease (liver failure). Do not forget to tell your medical history, especial if it include lupus. Do not driving while you taking Grifulvin V because it make you dizzy or less alert. Do not drink alcohol, this may cause a fast heartbeat and flushing of the skin. Avoid exposing your body to sun rays, use a sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Grifulvin V should not be used during pregnancy, becoming pregnant or lactating without doctor's advice. Do not use before breast-feeding without doctor's advice.
Contraindications
Grifulvin V is not allowed to people with hepatic diseases, porphyria (interferes with porphyrin metabolism), hypersensitive to griseofulvin or any componentof this dug, pregnant or breastfeeding. The medication cannot be administered to the outpatients of such professions: drivers of public transportation, pilots, steepjacks.
Possible side effect
They may include an allergic reaction: facial swelling, hives; difficulty breathing. Also the most possible side effects include:
white patches in your mouth (thrush/yeast infection);
nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea;
headache, dizziness, or tiredness;
insomnia;
confusion;
numbness or tingling in your hands or feet; or
menstrual irregularities.
If you experience one of them stop using Serevent and tell your doctor as soon as possible. Also consult with your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual.
Drug interaction
Grifulvin V interacts with following drugs:
barbiturate medicines for sleep or seizures, female hormones, like estrogens or progestins and birth control pills, and warfarin. Also note that interaction between two medications does not always mean that you must stop taking one of them. As usual it affects the the effect of drugs, so consult with your doctor about how it interactions are being managed or should be managed.
Missed dose
If you forgot to take your dose in time, please do it as soon as you remember. But do not take if it is too late or almost time for your next dose. Do not take double or extra doses. Take your usually dose next day in the same regularly time.
Overdose
Symptoms of Grifulvin V overdose are not known well, but most possible may include: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, numbness and tingling, and confusion. If you experience one of them call your doctor immediately.
Storage
Store at room temperature between 59-77 F (15-25 C) away from light and moisture, kids and pets. Do not use after expiration term.
