Common use
Tritace is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, its active substance ramipril is transformed in the liver to its active metabolite ramiprilat. Tritace is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), congestive heart failure, to prevent stroke, myocardial infarction, and to improve survival after a heart attack,. ACE inhibitors enlarge and reduce the blood pressure in the arteries going to the kidney reducing damaged done by high blood pressure. It also reduces proteinuria and renal disease in patients with nephropathies.
Dosage and direction
Recommended dose of Tritace is 2.5-20 mg a day taken orally as a single dose or divided in two doses.
Precautions
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, especially if your term is second- and third-trimester. Drink more water than usual, if you have diarrhea, excessive sweating this may result in considerable loss of water and dehydration leading to an excessive fall in blood pressure. Do not use salt substitutes containing potassium without consulting your physician. Notify your doctor if you have kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis), liver disease, heart disease or congestive heart failure, diabetes, a connective tissue disease such as Marfan syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, or rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma, lupus, or a severe allergic reaction in history before to take Tritace.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to ramipril or other ACE (in patient who has experienced angioedema during therapy with any other ACE inhibitor).
Side effects
Report immediately to your doctor if you experience lightheadedness, especially during the first days of therapy, any signs or symptoms suggesting angioedema (swelling of face, eyes, lips, or tongue, or difficulty in breathing). Such symptoms as sore throat, fever (caused by infection) may witness about neutropenia and your doctor should be also informed about them.
Drug interaction
Co-administration with aspirin and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents results in worsening of renal failure and an increase in serum potassium. Tritace can attenuate potassium loss caused by thiazide diuretics. There are reports about increased serum lithium levels and symptoms of lithium toxicity in patients receiving ACE inhibitors together with lithium therapy.
Missed dose
Take the dose you forgot as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose just skip the next dose and return to your regular schedule.
Overdose
Symptoms of overdose are: feeling extremely dizzy or light-headed, or fainting. If you suppose that you took too much of this medication contact your doctor as you may need immediate medical help.
Storage
Store at room temperature 15-30 C (59-86 F) away from light, moisture, pets and children.
